28th September - Wednesday Macmillian Coffee Morning

Saturday 30th - Sunday 31st July. 11am - 4pm - Findhorn Exhibition of local arts and craft. Event held at JMI VillAGE HALL, £2 admittance includes tea/coffee and cake.

Jim Hoseason

“The Way We Were”  Exhibition

To mark the 70th anniversary of the ending of the 2nd World War, a “Trip Down Memory Lane” Exhibition was held in Kinloss Church on Saturday, 20th June, 2015.  The Exhibition featured a large collection of photographs and showcased a wide selection of artefacts, evoking many happy – and not so happy memories of the dark days of wartime and through the austere period of rationing and “make do and mend”.

Jim Hoseason, Project Co-ordinator said – “Over 300 people attended the Event and a few tears were shed as some of the elderly visitors recalled the sad events affecting t heir families and friends.”   Jim added, “Highlights included a magnificent display of militaria provided by local man John Bichan.”   Star of the show, however, was John’s granddaughter Hannah Cox, dressed immaculately in an Authentic ATS wartime uniform.

Special thanks to Tom Brown, joint Co-ordinator and his wife Margaret and her amazing team of caterers who worked tirelessly to provide snacks and lunches throughout the Saturday and Sunday evesnts.

Display categories included rationing, the Blitz, School and Play, Home Life, Evacuation, Farming, Royal Air Force, Wartime Women, the horse, and many other items of general interest.

Another highlight was the Victorian handcart selling eggs and vegetables kindly donated by Woodside Farm.   This proved to be extremely popular and created much interest both visually and the attractive display of fresh farm produce.

On Sunday, 21 June, a special Wartime Service was held in Findhorn Church and an eerie silence fell over the proceedings following the broadcast of the wartime sound effects of aircraft flying apparently overhead.   In the afternoon a special wartime lunch was held at Kinloss Chuirch, serving spam and beans, stovies and rhubarb and apple pie with custard.   To wind up the Event Janis Thomson, Event Co-organiser, led a sing-song featuring Vera Lynn’s wartime classics.

The organisers were overwhelmed by the interest and support shown by so many people and special thanks to Elgin Museum, Falconer Museum, Forres and Fort George Museum for lending so many wartime items which greatly enhanced the Exhibition.

The Natural Cycle of Opening and Closing

Saturday  14th Mar 2015
4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Findhorn Village Centre
Garden room, Church Place, Findhorn  IV36 3YR

www.slowing-down.com presents

A time to explore the natural movements of opening and closing happening within the body and in relation to others.

Booking is necessary. Please contact me to reserve a place or go to our meetup page. Find us on Facebook

Fee:   £12    on the day  (some concession spaces available, please contact me).
£10   if paid in advance on Meetup
£9     each if you come with a friend
What will we be doing?
Slowing down into our bodies we will create new possibilities of listening to the inner movements naturally happening within ourselves - the natural opening and closing - our first intimacy.
We will also subtly listen to our partners in movement, providing the presence for them to deepen into themselves, while we root ourselves. Practices will involve guided individual and partner work, as well as circle time.

Is this for me?
This workshop is open to all, dancers, therapists, performers, researchers and particularly to those who are interested in entering sensitively into the experience of their own body and movement.

If you are finding the need to slow down... If you are looking for a deeper grounding into yourself through a bodily experience, feeling resourced and nurtured, finding more spaciousness and relaxation, into closing and opening then this workshop is definitely for you.

What to bring?
Clothes - The nature of the work requires to wear layers of comfortable clothing - warm and cold. You may also wish to bring knee pads if you have them (please aim to arrive a bit early to change)
Food & Drink - Bring your own bottled water.

What is sensitive dance?

Sensitive Dance is a gentle, inspired practice born from the encounter between Claude Coldy, dancer and choreographer, and Jean-Louis Dupuy and Marie Guyon, osteopaths.

"Sensitive Dance is a practice of conscious movement which aims to increase self awareness, awareness of one’s body, sensations and emotions.
This practice trains body and mind to listen deeply to the body’s messages.
It further proposes visiting some key stages of evolution, consciously reliving the process of verticalisation of the human being, so as to rediscover the meaning and potential contained in the form and structure of our bodies.
It offers us the possibility to learn from the unexpected replies that emerge spontaneously from the body, to re update them in our relation with the present moment opening new possibilities of movement.
The proposal is departing from sensitive listening to dance in our internal and external spaces and live one’s dance of the present moment which is the fruit of  the dynamic dialogue between sensation, internal movement and their expression in dance."

Findhorn’s Victorian School converted into a hostel in the 1960’s has been awarded funding of £167,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund.  This funding together with £50,000 from Highlands and Islands will enable the community company repair the fabric of the building and to improve the present accommodation and expand to enable the hostel to provide accommodation for up to 34 guests with two self contained family rooms.

Mo Hyde, Director said, This type of low cost accommodation is badly needed in the area.  It will provide increased capacity to support the events held in Forres and Findhorn.  The addition of family rooms and a new eco heating system will mean that we can open all year round.  The hostel  catered for nearly 2000 guests last season.  Once the work is completed we will be able to increase this by at least 1000 an important addition to the tourist provision of the area.

Notes:  Work will start in September 2015 to be completed in March 2016. Findhorn Village Hostel is run by Findhorn Village Centre, a community company founded in 2000.  All enquires to 01309 692339 or findhornvillagecentre@gmail.com.  www.findhornvillagehostel.com
